Although Avaaz has only been in operation for five years, it has grown to become a huge and successful online activist network. The word “Avaaz” means voice in many different languages of the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Avaaz was started for a simple democratic mission: to organize all citizens in the world and to close the gap that exist between the current world and the world that majority of people want. Avaaz works by empowering numerous individuals from different ethnic groups to take action on vital regional, national and global issues. The community campaigns of Avaaz are conducted in 15 languages and are served by a united team across six continents together with many volunteers. The actions taken by Avaaz include signing of petitions, emailing, funding of media campaigns, lobbying and calling governments as well as organizing offline events and protests.
